Jess Standfast is interested in how accustomed we are to the daily bombardment of images and continuously questions whether this onslaught creates an immunity to their interpretation. Using photography deliberately and slowly, she enables the viewer to encounter themselves in her work, by slowing down the process of discovery, and therefore enabling the interpretation of the phantasm before them. This slowed down process invites the viewer into the piece to complete the work. The viewer, now allowing the conscious endeavour and openness to interpretation, nullifies the daily bombardment of images and allows time for contemplation.
After her recent graduation from Moray School of Art with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art, Jess has exhibited in the RSA Open Exhibition, Edinburgh and was the selected Graduate for the SSA, Edinburgh.
